Flood cover, the part most people get wrong
Flood is the most common home insurance question we get in Malaysia, and the most commonly misunderstood. A standard fire policy does not cover flood. It is an extension, and it has to be added deliberately.
Two policies get confused. Houseowner covers the building itself, the structure, fixtures and permanent fittings. Householder covers what is inside, furniture, electronics and belongings. A flood that ruins your ground floor damages both, and many Malaysian homes are insured for only one.
If you are in or near a flood-prone area, and much of the Klang Valley is, the extension costs little against the alternative.
