Who this is for
Construction and earthworks contractors
Warehouses and ports running forklifts
Plantations and farms with tractors and harvesters
What it typically covers
- Comprehensive or third-party cover for registered special vehicles under motor
- Contractor's Plant & Machinery (CPM) cover for on-site damage, including overturning and collision
- Theft of plant from site, including while in transit between sites
- Third-party liability while the machine operates as a tool of trade
- Optional: hired-in plant liability, cover for machines you rent from others
Often placed alongside Contractors' All Risks and fleet policies, one specialist reviewing all three avoids double-paying for overlapping cover.

Common questions
My excavator never goes on the road. Motor insurance or CPM?
Usually both worlds meet: CPM covers it as plant on site; if it's road-registered and travels between sites, a motor policy handles road risk. We structure the two so nothing falls in the gap.
I rent machines in during peak season. Am I liable for them?
Under most hire agreements, yes, you're responsible from delivery to return. Hired-in plant cover picks this up; without it, one dropped machine can erase a project's margin.
Does theft from an open site count?
Plant theft is covered subject to the policy's security conditions, keys removed, immobilisers where fitted. We'll walk you through what the insurer expects so a claim isn't declined on a technicality.
