Does LINDUNG 24 Jam Replace Personal Accident Insurance?
No. LINDUNG 24 Jam and private Personal Accident insurance serve different purposes.
LINDUNG 24 Jam
LINDUNG 24 Jam is a social security scheme administered by PERKESO.Contributions and benefits are determined according to legislation, prescribed wage bands, medical assessments and PERKESO’s applicable rules.
Private Personal Accident Insurance
Personal Accident insurance is a contractual insurance policy purchased from an insurer.Depending on the selected insurer and plan, a Personal Accident policy may provide benefits such as:
Accidental death
Permanent disablement
Accident medical expenses
Weekly income benefits
Hospital cash allowance
Fracture benefits
Burns benefits
Ambulance fees
Additional optional benefits
The coverage amount, geographical limits, exclusions, benefit structure and policy conditions will differ between insurers and plans. For many Malaysians, LINDUNG 24 Jam and Personal Accident insurance should be viewed as complementary layers of protection rather than direct alternatives.LINDUNG 24 Jam provides statutory social security protection, while private Personal Accident insurance may provide additional contractual benefits and higher selected coverage amounts.
Should Employers Still Provide Group Personal Accident Insurance?
One question many employers are now asking is:
“If my employees are already contributing to LINDUNG 24 Jam, should my company still provide Group Personal Accident insurance?”
For many businesses, the answer may still be yes.LINDUNG 24 Jam is funded through employee contributions and provides social security protection administered by PERKESO.A Group Personal Accident policy, on the other hand, is an additional employee benefit that an employer chooses to provide and fund for its employees.Rather than replacing LINDUNG 24 Jam, a Group Personal Accident policy can strengthen an organisation’s overall employee benefits package.Depending on the selected plan, it may provide predetermined insurance benefits for accidental death, permanent disablement, accident medical expenses and other covered events. For SMEs, Group Personal Accident insurance can also be one of the more accessible employee benefits that may make a meaningful difference when an accident occurs.Providing Group Personal Accident insurance may help employers demonstrate that the company genuinely cares about its employees’ wellbeing. It may also support:
Employee morale
Staff confidence
Employee retention
Recruitment efforts
The organisation’s overall employee value proposition
Rather than viewing accident protection purely as an employee salary deduction, employers can consider Group Personal Accident insurance as an investment in their people. When employees know their employer has taken an additional step to protect them, it can create a stronger sense of care and security within the organisation. This is also how we provide additional accident protection for our own team at Amana.
Understanding Your Protection Before Making a Decision
LINDUNG 24 Jam is an important initiative that expands accident protection for employees outside working hours. However, like any protection scheme, it should be properly understood before an employee decides whether it is suitable for them.Employees should understand:
What accidents are covered
What accidents are excluded
How contributions are calculated
How benefits are assessed
What private insurance protection they already have
Whether their existing protection is sufficient
Employers should also consider whether a company-funded Group Personal Accident policy could complement the protection provided by LINDUNG 24 Jam.A well-structured Group Personal Accident policy may strengthen the company’s employee benefits programme while supporting staff morale and wellbeing.Understanding the differences allows both employees and employers to make more informed decisions about accident protection.
